Winston V. Buford, 89, passed away, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home. He and his wife Janice were living in Washington State since 2003, prior to moving back to Missouri to live with his daughter and son in law due to their health needs.
Winston, son of the late Thomas Buford and wife Lenora (Vallery) was born June 2, 1929 in Ellington, Missouri.
On May 12, 1950 he was united in marriage to Janice Metzger in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Winston's education began as a young man when he graduated from Ellington High School. He went on to attend Westminster College in Fulton for one year. From there he attended four years at University of Missouri-Columbia (MU). He was drafted into the Marines and spent two years in Washington State while pursing his undergraduate degree. To accomplish his Law Degree, he extended another four years at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). After receiving his Law Degree, he practiced law in Kansas City and then moved to Eminence where he practiced private law. He was elected Prosecutor for Shannon County for three terms. In 1970 he was appointed Circuit Judge for the 37th District in Missouri, until his retirement in 1989, after which he became a world traveler with his wife Janice taking cruises and flights to various destinations.
Winston received his fifty-year membership pin from Ferndale Masonic Lodge in Washington State and was a member of Ferndale Order of Eastern Star, as well as a long time member of the Missouri Bar Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Lenora Buford; one son, Harrison Buford; two brothers, James Buford and Pascal Buford and two sisters, Marie Renick and Martha Hurley.
He is survived by his wife Janice Buford of Union; two children, Amy Wehmeier and husband Don of Union and Andrew Buford of Eminence; eight grandchildren, Jason Buford and wife Hilary of Kansas City, MO, Trevor Buford and wife Anneke of Kansas City, MO, BJ Haydar and wife Mindy of Atlanta, GA, Anna Tripi of Springfield, John Tripi of New Mexico, Christina Francis of Naples, FL, Donald Wehmeier, III and wife Ellen, of Union and Branden Wehmeier and wife Jesie of Colorado Springs, CO.; fourteen great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.Midlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens
