Thomas
Dwyer
October 26, 1940 – June 7, 2024
Thomas Rodger Dwyer of Gerald, MO was born October 26, 1940 in West Rutland, VT; the son of Rodger Dwyer and his wife, Loretta (Williams). Thomas passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at the age of 83 years.
Thomas was enrolled in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964, serving in the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the states, he started his career in distribution and shipping. He was united in marriage to Marie "Penny" Mullett on April 26, 1968 in Millstadt, IL. The couple moved their family to Minnesota for several years where Thomas discovered he had a talent for nurturing and helping others. This led to him beginning his career working with developmentally disabled adults, where he instructed them in life skills and provided employment training for them. Thomas remained in this career for many years before returning home to the St. Louis area and retiring in 2017. He was a member of the Veterans Association and an extremely proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He took pride in leading meetings and being able to sponsor several AA friends over the years. The love and support he felt from his fellow AA members was one of the most valued aspects of his life. Thomas was a big sports fan, and there was hardly ever a time that there wouldn't be a baseball or football game playing on his television. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Thomas and Penny were an extremely loving couple, and while he never quite recovered from Penny's passing on March 1, 2024, his family takes comfort in the knowledge that they are together once again.
Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Dwyer; his parents, Rodger and Loretta Dwyer; and three brothers: Raymond Dwyer, Daniel Dwyer, and Timothy Dwyer.
He is survived by three children: Tamarra Hyde and husband Todd of West Lafayette, IN, Kimberly Dwyer and significant other, Michael Bearley of Freeburg, IL, and Marcus Dwyer and wife Kelly of St. Peters; six grandchildren: Ashley Krieg and husband Marcus, Lindsey Widel, McKenzie Widel, Nicholas Widel, Marcus Dwyer Jr., and Megan Dwyer; two great-grandchildren: Carter Krieg and Alivia Krieg; three sisters: Maureen Becker, Mary Butera, and Geraldine Murphy; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials in honor of Thomas Dwyer can be made to the AA Group – Gerald #365 Cookie Bunch.
