Terry Eugene Spence, 87, formerly of Union, Mo, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Rock Island Village assisted living center in Eldon, MO.
Terry was born on December 28, 1933 in White Cloud, Michigan, the son of Thomas and Helen (Gould) Spence.
Beginning in May 1951 while attending high school in Halfway, Missouri, Terry proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserves during the Korean War. He served until December 27, 1954 and was honorably discharged.
On November 30, 1952, he married Dorothy F. Wormsbaker. Together they shared 16 years of marriage and moved from Missouri to Michigan, Illinois, and subsequently to Union, Missouri in May of 1963. Terry was widowed on March 18, 1969. Survivors of this marriage include three children, Robin (George) Johnson of Lebanon, MO; Keven (JoyKay) Spence of Eldon, MO and Beckwith Crocker of Jefferson City, MO.
Terry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in baptism on September 21, 1969 at the First Christian Church in Union, MO with the Reverend Glenn Hull officiating.
On November 7, 1970, Terry was married to Joyce Immekus Friend of St. Clair, MO. Together they shared 38 years of marriage. Terry was again widowed on May 10, 2009. Survivors of this marriage include Terry's step-son Michael Friend of St. Ann, MO and son Mark Spence of Lebanon, MO.
After his time in the Naval Reserves, Terry worked as a lumberjack in Michigan before returning to his trade as a mechanic while living in Illinois. Terry was a longtime employee at Quality Chevrolet in Union as a General Motors Goodwrench Certified Mechanic. Terry enjoyed his mechanical trade, along with fishing, hunting and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen Spence; four brothers, William Spence, Clifford Spence, Thomas Spence, and David Spence; two sisters, Charlotte Stinson and Rosemary McGaughey; his first wife, Dorothy Spence; his second wife, Joyce Spence; son-in-law, Lyle Crocker; and many other relatives.
He is survived by his two sons, Keven Spence wife JoyKay of Eldon, and Mark Spence of Lebanon; stepson, Mike Friend of St. Ann; two daughters, Robin Johnson and husband George of Lebanon and Beckwith Crocker of Jefferson City; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and expansive family that stretches from coast to coast.
