Shirley M. Hays (Zweifel) 83 of Beaufort passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at her home.

Shirley, daughter of Earl E. Zweifel and wife Edna B. (McGee) was born March 5, 1943, in Catawissa, Missouri.

On November 23, 1961, she was united in marriage to Arvail T. Hays Jr. in Valley Park, Missouri.

Shirley received her education at Pacific High School graduating class of 1961.

Shirley enjoyed feeding hummingbirds and taking care of her flower garden. She was always a big Cardinal Baseball Fan, never missing a game. Shirley and Arvail were country music fanatics and would travel miles just to see their favorite singers. Shirley loved all her animals, but most of all loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl E. and Edna B. Zweifel; her husband, Arvail T. Hays Jr. and one brother, Earl Zweifel Jr.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Timothy Hays and wife Nora of Beaufort and Randy Hays of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Linda Helm of Union and Tammy Vemmer and husband Jeff of Union; three grandchildren, Landon Hays and wife Nicole of Cape Girardeau, Brendan Hays and wife Sammy of Washington and Austin Hays of Beaufort; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial donations to the American Lung Association are preferred.
