Robert "Bob"
J. Irwin
July 13, 1934 – October 11, 2022
Robert John Irwin of St. Louis, Mo., born July 13, 1934, entered into the presence of the Lord the afternoon of Oct 11, 2022.
Bob was the second of two sons to Elton "Tex" and Helen (née Salaverria) Irwin. He was born in Astoria, NY. As a tried and true Yankee, he would want you to know that you haven't lived until you've had a New York hot dawg (insert heavy NY accent). Upon graduating High School, he joined the US. Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Korean War.
He received Jesus Christ as his savior May 1946 at Astoria Bible Chapel alongside his older brother Elton Ray Irwin. He loved the Lord and The Word of God. Among his very large collection of books are many copies and translations of the Bible! He loved discussing and reading scripture with friends and family. After retiring from McDonnell Douglas/Boeing he pursued other passions such as gardening; volunteering as a Master Gardener for over 10 years at the Missouri Botanical Gardens he tended to the Japanese gardens section. He enjoyed sightseeing both near and far, and never missed a chance to see the autumn colors.
Bob would marry his first wife Nancy Elizabeth (née Wilson) on April 20, 1957, at the Maplewood Bible chapel. After Nancy passed away, he would later marry Peggy Jane (née Stickels) on December 26, 1999, in Cape Girardeau.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Elton "Tex" and Helen Irwin, his first wife Nancy and two children; Cindy Lyn Mayberry, Brian Elton Irwin and his brother Elton Ray Irwin. He is survived by his 2nd wife Peggy Jane Irwin of St. Louis, Mo, his son Russell Stuart Irwin and wife Elizabeth of Mo. two daughters Diane Helena Irwin of Mo., Joan Evonne Renth and husband Neal of N.C. and daughter in law Sherri Feeney of TN. Three stepsons Ken Oettle and wife Teri of Texas, Dennis Oettle and wife Deborah of Texas, Randall Oettle and wife Danielle of Mo., twenty grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
