Robert Gillespie, 84, of Sullivan, passed away, Monday, May 1, 2023, at his home in the comforting presence of his wife and family.

Robert was born to the union of Floyd Gillespie and Flora (York) in Detroit, Michigan on February 1, 1939. He earned his education from Naylor High School in Naylor, Missouri. On July 16, 1960, Robert was united in marriage to Frances (Etherton) in Creve Coeur, Illinois. He was a member of the Frank N. Nicol Lodge of Creve Coeur, Illinois, as well as a member of the Lake Wales Moose Lodge in Lake Wales, Florida where he served on the board for several years. Robert also served as the past commodore of the Pekin Boat Club of Pekin, Illinois. Robert worked as a machinist for Caterpillar before retirement in 1999.

He enjoyed doing many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. In his younger years, Robert enjoyed going for rides on motorcycles. Most of all, Robert loved spending time with his family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Flora Gillespie; three brothers: Louis Gillespie, Lester Gillespie, and Glen Gillespie; and one sister, Pauline Menson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Gillespie of Sullivan; one daughter, Vicky Adkins and husband Mike of Villa Ridge; one sister, Joan McKnight of Doniphan; one sister-in-law, Ethel Gillespie of Silva; two grandchildren: Michael Adkins and Matthew Adkins, both of Villa Ridge; three great-grandchildren: Devin Adkins, Hailey Adkins and Jayce Abernathy; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and many friends.
