Richard J. Newell, 76 of Union passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Newell, son of the late Homer and Mary Newell was born July 25, 1935 in St. Louis.

Mr. Newell served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

During his early working career he worked for the railroad where travels took him as far as Liberia, Africa. He was a Fireman for the St. Louis City Fire Department until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mary Newell.

Mr. Newell is survived by three sons, Richard Newell of Denver, Colorado, Steve Newell and wife Sharon of Cahokia, IL and Bruce Newell of Cahokia, IL; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
