Obituary

Penny Schreiner, 71 years young, of Owensville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 13, 2025. She spent 68 of those years in her beloved hometown of Union, Missouri, where she was born on December 5, 1953, in Washington, Missouri, to the late Archie "Red" and Edna (Webb) Klepper.

Penny attended Union High School and later graduated from Cosmetology School, where she discovered her lifelong passion for creativity and connection through her work. On July 28, 1980, she was united in marriage to Bob Schreiner in Nassau, Bahamas.

Before becoming a licensed cosmetologist, Penny spent her younger years working as a waitress at Cowan's Café, owned by Oma and Jerry Gildehaus, where she formed many precious lifelong friendships. Throughout her cosmetology career, she continued to build deep and lasting relationships with clients who often became like family to her.

Penny was a devoted member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Port Hudson and an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Chapter of Union, MO, as well as the Franklin County Chapter. She also served as President of the "Lady Antebellum" Red Hat Ladies Society. Penny and Bob enjoyed hosting exchange students and learning about other cultures, an experience they both cherished deeply.

Penny loved expressing her creativity through arts and crafts. She spent countless joyful hours making cards with her dear friend Barb Taetz, quilting, basket weaving, ceramics, and painting—just to name a few of her favorite pastimes. She especially treasured time spent with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; those visits were the moments she held closest to her heart.

She loved traveling and made many cherished memories on wonderful trips with her family and close friends, Sherry Reeves and Gary Brown. Penny was a loving mother, grandmother, and a true friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Archie (Red) Klepper and Edna (Webb) Klepper; her son, Rusty Perkins Sr.; her husband, Bob Schreiner; her brothers, Eddie Klepper and wife Allie, and Donnie Klepper; her brother-in-law, Les Schreiner; and her dearest cousin, Gary Klepper.

She is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Brian) Koch of Owensville, MO; daughter-in-law, Lisa Perkins of Gerald, MO; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Judy) Wettling of Washington, MO, and Larry (Patty) Schreiner of Hermann, MO; eight grandchildren — Rusty Perkins Jr., Corey Perkins, Judith Perkins (and fiancé Kyle Hanning), Matthew (Kayla) Koch, Lylah Koch, and Blake Koch — along with ten great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives, and numerous special friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the family to help with medical expenses. Remaining funds will be donated to Mercy Hospice of Washington in gratitude for their compassionate care and support of the family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
