Penny
Dwyer
April 11, 1947 – March 1, 2024
Marie "Penny" (Mullett) Dwyer of Gerald, MO was born April 11, 1947 in East St. Louis, IL; the daughter of George "Harry" Mullett and his wife, Helen (O'Connell). Penny passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 surrounded by family after a long, courageous three year battle with cancer.
Penny received her education from St. Theresa's High School in East St. Louis and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She was united in marriage to Thomas Dwyer on April 26, 1968 in Milstadt, IL and the couple celebrated 55 years of marriage last April. She was most recently employed as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Red Bud Nursing Home in Red Bud, IL, then went on to love retired life for the past nine years. Penny was truly a giving person. She loved the underdog and was always trying to give what she could and help those struggling; whether that be taking kids in need to her timeshare or rescuing an animal that needed a home. She also gave up her job in 2002 to watch three of her grandchildren. Penny filled their days with games, learning, and stories, and they hold those precious memories close to their hearts. She cherished the time spent with those she loved, and she will be greatly missed.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Helen Mullett; and one brother, George "Mugsy" Mullett.
She is survived by her adored husband, Thomas Dwyer of Gerald; three children: Tamarra Hyde and husband Todd of West Lafayette, IN, Kimberly Dwyer and significant other, Michael Bearley of Freeburg, Il, and Marcus Dwyer and wife Kelly of St. Peters; five grandchildren: Marcus Dwyer Jr., Megan Dwyer, Lindsey Widel, McKenzie Widel, and Nicholas Widel; and several close friends whom she cherished.
Memorials in honor of Penny Dwyer can be made to the DeGreeff Hospice House, who took exceptional care of her.
A private family and friends celebration of life will be held at a later date.
