Obituary

Melvin Ray Shearin, 87, of St. Clair passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Shearin, son of Evert and Rosine Shearin was born June 21, 1930 in Farmington.

He served his country in the United States Army seeing nine months of action in the Korean War and receiving a Purple Heart and United Nations Service Medal.

On November 10, 1956 he was united in marriage to Irma nee Smith.

In his early career he worked at Adam's Dairy during the day and during the evening he trained Cutting Horses. His love for his horse training later evolved to operating his own business Mel Shearin Training Stables in St. Louis. He was a member of the National Cutting Horse Association where Mel thought of the other members as family.

Mr. Shearin was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Rosine Shearin; his wife, Irma Shearin; one daughter, Lisa Shearin and niece, Vonda

He is survived by three children, Lois Shearin of St. Clair, Larry Shearin and wife Bonnie of Union and Linda Stout and husband Mike of Bonne Terre; one sister, Bobby Weiler and husband Junior of Bonne Terre; five grandchildren, Holly, Tara, Jessica, Amanda and Kielea; four great-grandchildren, Tucker, Cooper, Elizabeth and Damian; nieces and nephews, Wanda, Darlene, Kevin and Clay; his Cutting Horse family; other relatives and many friends.
