Loretta "Kay"
Sturgill
August 6, 1938 – November 15, 2024
Loretta "Kay" (Snodgrass) Sturgill of Washington, MO passed away surrounded by her family Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 86 years. She was born August 6, 1938, in Keokee, VA; the daughter of coal miner Clifford Snodgrass and his wife, Mossie (Heron).
Kay received her education from Big Stone Gap High School in VA. She was united in marriage to Robert Sturgill on May 4, 1956, in St. Louis, MO and the couple was blessed with five children. Kay worked at So Good Potato Chip factory and in retail when she was young. Though her true calling in life was being a dedicated pastor's wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading books and puzzles, embroidery and sewing, eating ice-cream, finding treasures at garage sales, and collecting cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, and strawberry décor that reminded her of her dad's strawberry patch. She was very musical and loved listening to music, singing, and playing the accordion and piano at church. Kay was an excellent cook and loved baking; her specialties being fried chicken and homemade pancakes. During the holidays, her pumpkin pie, banana bread, fudge, and peanut butter candy were staples. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right with her daughter and granddaughter every day. The time Kay cherished most was the time spent with her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sturgill; her parents, Clifford and Mossie Snodgrass; four brothers: Harold Snodgrass, Bud Snodgrass, Don (Sara) Snodgrass, and Ralph (Mary Sue) Snodgrass; one grandson, Andrew Michael Ziegler; and one brother-in-law, Bob Whitely.
She is survived by one son, Kevin Sturgill and wife Madeline of Denver, CO; four daughters: Sherry Ziegler and husband Dave of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy Niewald and husband Larry of Washington, Phyllis Martin and husband Ken of Springfield, and Stephanie Weiss and husband Michael of Washington; one sister, Phyllis Whitely; eleven grandchildren: Ryan (Brittney) Ziegler, Jordan Ziegler, Natasha (David) Bays, Alicia Martin, Kevin (Katie) Sturgill Jr, Mariah Seigmiller, Felicia (Vincent) Lucero, Zac (Emily) Sturgill, MiKayla Weiss, Austin Weiss, and Chloe Weiss; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
