Obituary

Lawrence Gerald “Larry” Abel, of Lonedell, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, at the age of 89.

Larry was born on December 24, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Gerald L. Abel and Mary (Eimann) Abel.

On October 1, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, Georgiann Schneider. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked for Ford Motor Company and later at Whitegate Tire & Service in Lonedell. He was a faithful member of St. Clare Catholic Church and a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Luebbering and served on the St. Francis Cemetery Committee. In his free time, Larry enjoyed working puzzles and square dancing. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family, and kind heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgiann Abel of Lonedell; his children, Brenda Abel (Kathy Kuhlman) of Union, Bryan (Ruby) Abel of Robertsville, and Gerald (Tayler) Abel of De Soto; his brothers, Norman (Shirley) Abel of Perryville and Richard (Shirley) Abel of Cedar Hill; his sister, Jeanette Lufcy of Perryville; his grandchildren, Zack (Beth) Brown, Cody Brown, Elizabeth Abel, Lillian Abel, Logan Abel, Brad (Katie) White, and Jeremy (Wendy) White; and his great-grandchildren, Alethia, Ryker, Addalyn, Skye, Destiny, Sarina, and Brad Jr., along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Mary Abel; his brothers, Eugene Abel, Kenny Abel, Dennis Abel, Gary Abel, Raymond Abel and Leonard Abel; and his sister, Judith Schnarr.

Larry's family will cherish the many memories they shared with him and will remember him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose love and steady presence touched many lives.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Midlawn Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at St. Clare Catholic Church, St. Clair, Missouri. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Luebbering, Missouri.
