Kenneth Michael Stanfield, "Mike" 75, of St. Louis passed away on October 3, 2021.
Kenneth was born in Sedalia, Missouri in 1946 to Kenneth M. and Evelyn Stanfield, of blessed memory. He graduated from McCluer High School and then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era in the Atlantic Fleet. After an honorable discharge, he married Linda Dee Durfee in 1968. She predeceased Kenneth in 1980.
Kenneth is survived by his two children, Kenneth Anthony (Jennifer) Stanfield of St. Louis and Brian Matthew (Hannah) Stanfield of Washington, Missouri. He was fortunate to have seven grandchildren: Alex Weigel, Cassie Willming, Gabriel Stanfield, Isabelle Stanfield, April Sheehan, Benjamin Stanfield and Caleb Stanfield.
He is survived by siblings Dennis (Penny) Stanfield of Washington, Missouri; Susan (Rick) Katterhenry of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kenneth's younger brother Jerry Stanfield predeceased him.
He was an industrial electrician for his entire career, working at Brown Shoe Company, Gould Foundry, Children's Hospital, Kroger and others. He was a proud member of Local 688 and Local 610 of Teamsters' Union.
On August 29, 1965, Kenneth sailed the Sargasso Sea on the U.S.S. Independence to recover the Gemini GT-5 spacecraft and received the Exalted Order of Recoverers of U.S. Manned Orbital Spacecrafts award, an assignment which he was most proud.
His pastimes included golfing, billiards and the St. Louis Cardinals in addition to spending time with his family.
