John Anthony Mooney of rural Owensville, formerly of Troy, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the age of 84 years. He was born March 6, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri; the son of Anthony and Stella Mooney.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Carolyn Mooney, on July 10, 2025; his parents, Anthony and Stella Mooney; and one sister, Carol Bowen.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Mooney, of Elsberry, and Anthony Mooney, of Troy; six grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Bret, Sean, Kristen, and Jonathon; eleven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A private family burial will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
