Obituary

Jimmy Myles Yowell, 71, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Sunset Healthcare Center in Union, MO. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 21, 1951 to James Napoleon Yowell and Edith Brown Succio. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Shane Succio; and his wife, Mary Matthews Yowell.

Jim served his country as an army medic and served stateside during Vietnam. He met the love of his life while stationed at Fort Bragg NC, they were married and spent most of their marriage in NC. After the army he worked briefly as a carpenter and was a member of his local fire department as an EMT. His passion for helping others led him to attend school to be a Registered Nurse and when he finally retired, he had been an RN for 43 years.

Jim was an avid reader and would often remind us all that he could read by the age of 3. He spent a lot of time at the library and would often check out stacks of books at a time and read them all in one night. Jim was passionate about politics and his country. He never passed up the opportunity for debate about how he believed it should be run.

Jim is survived by his children; Christy Templin and husband Steve, and James Yowell and wife Kristi; granddaughters: Hailee Core and husband Daniel, Hannah Gordon, and Josie Yowell; great-granddaughters; Emelia and Evie; siblings: Ria Voth and husband Scott, Deborah Dye, and Rod Yowell and wife Lorraine; and many aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.

After the loss of his wife in 2000, most say Jim was never the same. The family finds comfort in knowing that they are finally reunited.

The family would like to thank his late Uncle Larry Brown and his family, as well as his Uncle Nick Oprendek for their unwavering support, and Sunset Healthcare Center, ProMedica Hospice, and Midlawn Funeral Home for his care.
