Helen Baker nee Gilbert, 91 of Lonedell passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 in St. Clair. Mrs. Baker, daughter of the late James Gilbert and wife Lena nee Door was born June 19, 1923 in Stanton. Helen was a faithful volunteer for the VFW Post Auxiliary in St. Louis. She volunteered time in hospitals and anywhere she was needed by the post. She enjoyed cooking and was known for making delicious meals for her family. Her grandchildren brought much joy to her life. She offered unconditional love and understanding for her grandchildren. Helen was very generous and always had a smile. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard William Baker Sr.; four sons, John O. Baker, Leonard William Baker Jr., James Baker and Milton Howard Baker; two daughters, M. Margaret Baker and Linda K. Hammonds; one sister, Mary Mellinger and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Hammonds. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Adams and husband Ross of Lonedell; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
