Obituary

Gilbert E. Oberg, 88, of Gray Summit, passed away on, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

On August 22, 1934, Gilbert was born to the union of Theo Oberg and Lydia (Lichtenberg) in Stony Hill, Missouri.

Gilbert served his country in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Pauline (Winkelmann) on June 6, 1964, in Morrison, Missouri.

Gilbert retired from General Motors in 1987. He worked in almost every area of production from the assembly line to the paint booth. Countless automobiles were built by the hands of Gilbert. He was a member of the UAW for 30 plus years as well as a Charter Member of the Hermann and Pacific Eagles Lodge.

He enjoyed working on furniture and woodwork. He was a collector of many things that he gathered from his many trips to auctions. Gilbert was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Most of all, Gilbert loved his family and spending time with them any chance he could. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Lydia Oberg, two brothers, Earl Oberg and Archie Oberg; one sister, Viola Oberg.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Pauline Oberg of Gray Summit; one son, Michael Oberg and wife Kelli of Gray Summit; one daughter, Michele Oberg of Gray Summit; sister-in-law, Mae Oberg of New Haven; one granddaughter, Hanna Oberg of Gray Summit, he was also a host-father to Tracey Rose from Australia; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Gray Summit Lion's Club or to Parkinson's Research.
