Obituary

George Steinmetz passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 in Washington, with his wife Simone at his bedside.

He was born January 6, 1932 in St. Louis and was a resident of the area his entire life.

On January 19, 1952 he was united in Marriage to Simone Soucy in Shrewsbury, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Noto and his son, Glenn Steinmetz.

Mr. Steinmetz is survived by his wife, Simone Steinmetz of Washington; two sons, Dale Steinmetz and wife Kathi of Edwardsville, IL and Mike Steinmetz and companion Sue of Visalia, California; one daughter, Lisa Braun and husband Tim of Union; half brother, Anthony Noto of O'Fallon, MO; half sister, Nancy Smith of House Springs; six grandchildren, Sherri Stout, Christina Stroehmer, Michael Steinmetz all of Edwardsville, IL, Dwaine Steinmetz of Katy, Texas, Emily Braun and Jack Braun both of Union; six great-grandchildren, Molly Stout, Joshua Stout, Samuel Stout, Riley Stroehmer, Hunter Stroehmer and Elizabeth Steinmetz; other relatives and many friends.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1951 and served in the Korean War.

He was decorated with a purple heart during his term and was honorably discharged upon completing his service. His service left an indelible impression on his character and personality; he was always a Marine.

George worked for Christian Board of Publication in St. Louis from 1954 until his retirement in 1994.

George was an avid nature hiker and led much of his family in this recreation. He enjoyed a trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park, many trips to the Smoky Mountain National Park, and innumerable day trips to Shaw Nature Preserve in Gray Summit.

Much of his family enjoyed these trips with him.

George enjoyed any and all family gatherings and was the consummate Patriarch. His humor, desire to help, sense of family, and love of pretzels are parts of the legacy that has been passed to all who love him. His presence will be missed sorely, but the impression he made on his family and others will keep him in our thoughts. Well done George--- "Semper Fi"
