Obituary

George Daniel Mahler
June 11, 1952-April 17, 2026

George Daniel Mahler of Pacific passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by many family members and many close friends. He was born on June 11,1952, in Mexico, Missouri to Mr. George Walter and Mary Louise (Devine) Mahler.

At the age of 14, George was already working on tractors and cars in his parents' garage. His mom said that even at the age of four, he had a wrench in his hand and always tried to fix things or just took them apart. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1971, and with determination
and his work ethic intact, George became a successful businessman at an early age. He was particularly proud of his shop, "Mahler's Truck and Auto Repair." He had an uncanny ability to hear and identify a problem with a vehicle. It was not unusual that he used a stethoscope under the hood to identify more clearly what the problem was. He serviced cars for the locals, for customers from miles around in every direction, as well as frequent out of state customers. George often told the story of being a mechanic for Don Essen Chevrolet when he was a teenager and in later years, Mr. Essen brought his vehicle to George for service. George will truly be remembered as an expert mechanic in his own right!

He also built and owned the Beacon Car Wash on Historic Route 66 from 2005 until it was sold in 2016. He proudly restored the beacon tower that had at one time identified the Beacon Court/Motel along the "Mother Road". George placed the neon tower at the front of the carwash
where it is on display along Route 66 still today. During his retirement he enjoyed even the simple things. George was gracious in sharing the
shop as a popular nightlife venue for all who wanted to attend. He loved to dance to his music, play shuffleboard, and always encouraged the dancers in their country line dance routines. Everyone in attendance were kept entertained, but George's contagious laughter, and stories,
contributed to the most memorable times that he shared with friends. His retirement proved a time when he could finally reflect, enjoy and do what he wished with his life.

He had a great appreciation and love for his feral cats both at home and at the shop, ALL fueling George with more funny stories to tell. He had fond memories of his dog, Girl, who never left his side, even if it meant Girl getting wet in the shower, or jumping into the lake after him. Morning
routines included coffee on the screened porch watching the bluebirds build their spring nests, hummingbirds stopping for nectar, and chipmunks dashing from garden to garden hiding nuts in the mulch all while his cats wanted nothing more than to have them for breakfast. He would get
great enjoyment watching nature at work.

George kept his childhood toys and continued collecting antique toy cars and trucks, many of which he received as gifts throughout the years. This contributed to, what presents itself, as a mini-Route 66 Museum in the shop's office. He spent his whole life as a collector of classic cars, oil and gas memorabilia, and auto accessories. George's passion was attending Classic Car Shows over the years. He was proud to accept multiple awards with his 62 Impala. George was always participating in community activities and was an active member of the Pacific Chamber
of Commerce for many years. He also belonged to the Route 66 Association and took several trips along Route 66 in his classic car.

George enjoyed numerous camping trips across the US, some of the favorite states were Tennessee, Colorado, New Mexico, and South Dakoto. Some were long trips while others were weekend get-a-ways.

George is survived by his loving wife Suzanne Marie (Heger) Mahler, of two years, and they shared a sweet love story of almost 20 years together. In April 2026, George proposed to Suzanne again, and their Pastor renewed their vows just days before their 2nd Wedding
Anniversary in the presence of family and friends. He is also survived by a daughter, sisters, a brother, step-children and step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brother and sister in-laws, aunts, cousins and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Mary L. (Devine) Mahler.
