Obituary

Freddie (Fred) Eugene Nixon, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at home in Sullivan, MO, just fifteen days shy of his 83rd birthday. Freddie was born in Hannibal, MO on November 22, 1940, to Fred W. Nixon, and Eugenia (Hagan) Nixon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia, brother Richard, and his wife Marion A. (Cone) Nixon.

Freddie served his country stateside during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force. He served his entire tour at the North Bend Air Station, Coos Bay, Oregon. While stationed in Coos Bay, he met the love of his life Marion Cone. They were married on August 31, 1963, at Saint Monica's Catholic church, in Coos Bay. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Fred and Marion moved to St. Louis MO. Fred worked various jobs, but his passion was being a firefighter and EMT. After leaving firefighting, Fred became an over-the-road truck driver, which he had as a profession until he retired.

Fred loved many different things in life, but his favorite thing to do was to go fishing. His favorite times were time on the water with his son, Fred, and his grandkids. Another event in life that Fred used to talk about was a once in a lifetime chance he had to ride the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) from Honolulu, Hawaii, to San Francisco, CA with his son Richard, who was serving onboard the naval vessel.

Fred is survived by his brother, Ron Nixon; his children: Richard Nixon and his partner Todd Eller, and Freddie Nixon Jr. and his wife Connie (Upton) Nixon; grandchildren: Brandie Nixon and fiancé Tyler Luker, Brittanie Nixon and fiancé Jay Gregory , Benjamen Nixon, Brian Nixon and fiancé Josephine Bertulfo, Bradley Nixon; six great-grandchildren: Jacob Schuler, Kurtus Luker, Dominic Luker, Aaliyah Luker, Enok Eckelkamp, and Zekiah Gregory; nieces; nephews, other relatives and many friends.

After the loss of his wife in 2022, Fred was never the same. Fred and Marion are reunited once again!

The family would like to thank all of those who befriended Fred, supporting him after the loss of his wife, as well as his decline in health. Thank you to Midlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park Cemetery for their assistance during this time of loss.
