Obituary

Floyd E. Downey, 77, of St. Clair passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center in St Louis, Mo. with his wife Judy by his side.

Floyd, son of the late Edwin Downey and wife Susie Ann nee Hawkins, Stepdad Raymond Wagner was born Sunday, April 4, 1943, in St. Clair. After the death of his father Edwin Downey, his mother Susie went on to marry Raymond Wagner, raising a total of 8 children. Raymond played a big part in Floyd's life.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy Ann Downey nee Welch; six children, Anita Nunnery of St. Clair, Ed Downey and wife Jeannie of New Brunswick, Canada, Mark Downey and wife Leanna of St. Peters, Gabby Downey and wife Stephanie of St. Peters, Katrina McKlendin and husband Justin of Sullivan, Josh Downey and wife Marlene of St. Clair; with the help of the two prior moms, Joyce Ritchey and (Susan West who went home to be with the Lord) took part in raising all 6 children; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Bill Downey and wife Donna; three sisters, JoAnn Halmich and husband Gary, Donna Ejchler and husband Stanley and Judy George; sister-in-law, Patricia Downey; mother-in-law, Ora B. Mahurin; other family and many friends.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Susie Ann Downey; Stepdad, Raymond Wagner; granddaughter, E.J. Downey; two brothers, Kenneth Downey and Gene Wagner; one brother-in-law, Dutch George; one sister, Carolyn Hemker; fathers-in-law, Lawrence Allen Welch & Marvin T. Mahurin.

Since Floyd's passing there has been several family members that have passed: mother-in-law Ora B. Mahurin and sister, Donna and sister-in-law Donna.

Floyd was employed by Havin Material and Franklin County Concrete for a total of 35 years, retired 2005, Teamsters Local 682.  Floyd loved driving a truck and was well known for his driving skills. He always kept his rubber boots in his truck just in case someone needed help, especially those who were not contractors and had no idea what to do next. Many contractors insisted Floyd deliver the concrete and would wait until he was available.

Floyd was a Christian, believing in the Lord as his Savior. Floyd was caring and compassionate to anyone and everyone, loved all his family and passed on the example of work ethic and self-confidence to his children and grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Every Saturday morning, he and his friends would meet at McDonald's in St Clair. He loved to be outdoors building something, enjoyed his plants and had an awesome green thumb. He was so proud of his large flock of hummingbirds that came back year after year. One year he had so many that he was feeding them 4 gallons per day.

Due to COVID no services were held.

The family was served by Midlawn Funeral Home for the cremation.
