Ethel Thurmond nee Reed, 91 of Stanton passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 in Stanton.

Mrs. Thurmond, daughter of the late George Reed and wife Jessie nee Cowan was born March 28, 1921 in Anaconda, Missouri.

She worked at Happy Acres in Stanton as a Certified Nurses Assistant until her retirement at age 87.

Mrs. Thurmond was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jessie Reed; her first husband, Charles Cox; her second husband, Orris Thurmond; three children at infancy, Shirley Cox, Donald Cox and Carlyss Cox; four brothers, George Reed, Albert Reed, Oscar Reed and Carl Reed.

She is survived by four sons, Carl Cox and wife Betty of St. Clair, Joe Cox and wife Mary of Sullivan, David Cox and wife Charlene of St. Clair and Wayne Thurmond of Illinois; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
