Edith Goldie Holdmeyer, nee Gildehaus, 95, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023.  Edith was born September 5, 1928 to the late August Gildehaus and wife Dorothy, nee Koch.  She was united in marriage to Melvin Holdmeyer on October 16, 1948 at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington, MO. and to this union four children were born.

In her younger years, she worked outside the home.  Later, she was a homemaker and also worked alongside Melvin as caretakers for the Leif Sverdrup Farm on Bluff Road where they resided and cared for his home and property in St. Louis.  Edith enjoyed gardening, quilting, and shopping at the local resale shops.

She is survived by three children: Frank Holdmeyer (Trish) of Colfax, IA, Joyce Fees (Steven) of Union, and Daniel Holdmeyer (Kathy) of Dutzow; three grandchildren: Ryan Holdmeyer (Sarah) of MN, Eric Holdmeyer (Amanda) of IA, and Shawn Malone (Amanda) of St. Charles; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers: Donald Gildehaus (Jean) of Washington, and Jerome Gildehaus of Krakow; and many other relatives and friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, August and Dorothy Gildehaus; her husband, Melvin Holdmeyer; one daughter, Mary Ann Malone; and one sister, Eleanor Hellebusch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer Association or Masses.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
