Obituary

Donald Kampmann, 86 of Union passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in Town and Country following a short illness.

Don, son of Ernest Kampmann and wife Minnie (Codey) was born March 5, 1935 in St. Louis and spent most of his life in Missouri.

On July 7, 1952 he was united in marriage to Hazel Thornburgh in Osceola, Arkansas and they were blessed with six children.

Don honorably served his country in the United States Army seeing wartime during the Korean War. As a business owner, he owned and operated his own barber shop in St. Louis, at one time serving many of the St. Louis Cardinals team.  Don never met a stranger and he loved the conversations and variety his barber shop fostered. Later, he became a owner/operator truck driver and then a machinist at Pacer in Washington.

Don thought with common sense and a manual he could do anything, even building his family a new home!  This unstoppable spirit lives on in his children and grandchildren.

Don was family oriented and loved having all the family together for holidays, bbq's, birthdays or any other reason to get together.  After his family, Don's greatest love was music.  He was an accomplished musician, playing several instruments and specializing in the Steel Guitar. Don played and sang with many local bands, sometimes including his wife on bass guitar and brother on guitar.

Don loved Jesus, his family, pineapple upside down cake, the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Minnie Kampmann; his wife, Hazel Kampmann and an infant son, David.

He is survived by three sons, Donald Kampmann and wife Marie of Union, Ronald Kampmann and wife Debby of Washington and Dwayne Kampmann and partner, Nancy Lebbing of St. Louis; two daughters, Virginia Branson and husband Dennis of Washington and Cynthia Sansom of Union; one brother, Vernon Kampmann of House Springs; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial donations to The Wounded Warrior Project are preferred.
