Obituary

Donald R. Chapman, 78, of Villa Ridge, passed away, Friday, September 24, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

On August 17, 1943, Donald was born to the union of James Russell Chapman Jr. and Crystal (Heacock) in Winslow, Indiana.

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army as well as the National Guard.

On March 25, 1977, Don was united in marriage to Sherry (Ouellette).

He worked for the City of St. Clair.

Donald loved his horses and riding with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and taking them fishing. Donald loved being outdoors and being on the river as much as he could. Taking an afternoon drive with his wife and father-in-law was something he looked forward to. He was known to wear his signature hat that said "Don" for over 30 years. He enjoyed listening to country music, building furniture for people, woodworking and his shot glass collection. Don had the nicest yard on the block. He raised Boston terriers nearly his whole life, Jo-bob, Sug, Jojo and Toby. Don loved having his white trucks. He was proud to have served in the military for the country he loved so much. Along with his strong passion for his country, Don loved his family and friends very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jr. and Crystal Chapman, infant brother, Michael Chapman; grandson, Dustin Kieffer.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sherry Chapman of Villa Ridge; seven sons, Harold Chapman and wife Pam of Indiana, Donald E. Chapman and wife Marilyn of St. Clair, Jeff Chapman of St. Clair, Cobby Chapman of Villa Ridge, David Chapman and wife Kimmie of St. Clair, Tony Grub of Kentucky and Alan Grub of Kentucky; two daughters, Crystal Sloan and husband David of Indiana and Helen Wood and husband Gayland of Festus; two brothers, Johnny Chapman and wife Sherry of St. Clair and Jack Chapman of Villa Ridge; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
