David Lee
Lenhart
July 15, 1959 – October 4, 2025
David Lee Lenhart of Union, formerly of St. Clair, passed away in the presence of his loving family on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 66 years. He was born to Robert Lee and Nelda Lucille (Bivens) Lenhart at Cape Girardeau on July 15, 1959.
He worked at Six Flags and volunteered at the High Ridge Fire Department as a teenager.
In 1976, at the age of 17, David joined the Army and saw many things while traveling the world. He is known for repeatedly sharing many of his stories with his family and friends about his experiences in Korea, Germany, and while being deployed during Desert Storm.
After seventeen years of service to his country, he retired from the United States Army at the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. After his retirement, he lived in Georgia and became a Peace Officer. David worked in security at the Masters Golf Tournament and the Olympics in July 1996. He then became a security guard at the prison, where he retired after sixteen years.
After many years away from Missouri, he moved back home and into his dream house. He loved to garden and to reconnect with family and friends when possible.
One of the many things that he absolutely loved was going to concerts. He accumulated a great collection of T-shirts from the many musicians and groups that he was able to see over years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lenhart and Nelda Lenhart-Burnes; brothers, Charles Lenhart, William Lenhart, Paul Lenhart, and Ronald Lenhart.
He is survived by his wife, Lining Lenhart, who he married in 2005; his children, Chase Lewis and wife Kathy, of California, Jessica Painter and husband Mitch, of Florida, and Lacy, his 12-year-old cocker spaniel; brothers, Thomas Lenhart and wife Lora, of Eureka, and Michael Lenhart, of House Springs; sister, Janell Burnes and husband David, of Sikeston; grandchildren, Porter Whittenberg, Tripp Whittenberg, Cotton Whittenberg, Alice Painter, and Anthony Lewis; sisters-in-law, Colleen Lenhart and Kim Lenhart; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A service with Military Honors is being planned at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
