Curtis
Wright
April 25, 1961 – November 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Curtis Ira Wright. A devoted father, husband, Navy veteran, and proud blue-collar man, who left this world on November 1st, 2025 at the age of 64.
Curtis built his life on hard work, faith, and family. A man of few words but strong convictions, he spent his life providing for his loved ones and never shied away from an honest day's work. Whether it was long days on the job or late nights fixing something at home, he did it all with grit and love in his heart.
Curtis was a proud member of the US Navy. He completed A school in San Diego, California and served as a communications specialist (Radioman) on the USS Vancouver. The ship departed from San Diego on May 24, 1980, participating in five major amphibious operations before returning on November 22, 1980. This deployment took Curtis to see the world including Hawaii, the Philippines, Perth, Australia, and Mombasa, Kenya. For its service during this deployment, the Vancouver was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal. Curtis later went on to become a welder and spent the rest of his life working hard to provide for his family.
Curtis was the proud father of nine children each of whom carry a piece of his strength, humor, and determination. To his kids, he was more than a father; he was a teacher, a protector, and the steady yet firm hand that guided them through life's ups and downs.
He found joy in the simple things; a good cup of coffee before sunrise, a well-worn pair of boots, laughter around the dinner table, and the satisfaction of a job done right. His work ethic and quiet pride were matched only by the love he had for his family.
Curtis leaves behind eight of his nine children - Curtis Clabough and wife Jennifer of Illinois, Yvonne Prather and husband James of Illinois, Mary Borden and spouse Cornell of Illinois, Liberty Wright of Florida, Jackelyn Sanders and husband Terry of St.Clair, Freedom Wright and wife Juley of St.Clair, Susan Wright and spouse DJ of Robertsville, and Jacob Raider and Spouse Alex of Illinois - 23 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a legacy built on love, integrity, and hard work. Though he has hung up his hat for the last time, the lessons he taught and the love he gave will live on through all who knew him.
Curtis is proceeded in death by his wife of 34 years Lisa Ellen Wright. His parents Carlin Revilo Wright and Margaret Lillian Weybright. His siblings Ramona Wright, Carlin Wright, Debra Schamel and William Weybright. One daughter Rosanna Borden and one granddaughter Serenity Borden.
"Grief is like the ocean; it comes in waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim".
A celebration of life and memorial service will take place at a later date.
