Carolyn Marie (Williamson) Mooney, of rural Owensville, formerly of Troy, passed away at Hermann on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the age of 82. Daughter of William Houston and Margaret Strickland, she was born in Decatur, Alabama, on December 24, 1942.
She served in the United States Navy while stationed at Charleston, South Carolina, where she met the love of her life, John Mooney, who was also serving in the United States Navy. They were united in marriage on May 2, 1962, at Monks Corner, South Carolina. After serving our country, they returned to Florissant before moving to Lincoln County in 1970.
Carolyn worked for Phil Beck Motors and later became the manager at the troy License Bureau for over 20 years before her retirement. She was well known in the community for her friendliness and caring attitude to help any and everyone who walked through the license bureau door. Carolyn was also a skilled painter and artist. When she and John weren't traveling around the United States or to places like Brazil, Coast Rica, Panama, Jamaica or Mexico, she enjoyed fishing wherever and whenever she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret; siblings, John C., Joseph, Lela and Lulu.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Mooney of Owensville; sons, Michael Mooney of Ellsberry and Tony Mooney of Troy; grandchildren, Kristen Burwell, Jonathon Mooney, Ryan Mooney, Eric Mooney, Brett Mooney and Sean Mooney; eleven great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 1:30 P.M. Those attending are asked to gather in the parking lot behind the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery administration building by 1:00 P.M.
The family asks for no flowers or gifts.
