Robert "Butch" Eugene Speer, 73, of St. Clair passed away suddenly, Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Washington in the comforting presence of his loving wife and daughter.
On February 5, 1950, Butch was born to the union of Norman Speer and Betty (Lee) in St. Louis, Missouri.
Butch graduated from Herculaneum High School.
He was united in marriage to Barbara (Turner) at his family home on December 12, 1968, in Antonia, Missouri.
Butch worked for DOERUN in Herculaneum for over 25 years. He would later move on to WARCO in Marthasville and then eventually ending his working career at Wal-Mart after 7 years.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in St. Clair where he also played in the worship band for several years.
Butch had a love for music and in his younger years had been in a band called "The Secrets". He was fascinated by reenactments and looked forward to the Mountain men Rendezvous. Butch was a talented woodcarver and made many wood art pieces for his family and friends. When he could, Butch loved to deer hunt and go fishing. Most of all Butch was the best grandfather and great-grandfather and cherished all the time spent with all of his grandkids. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Speer and Betty Whitney.
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barb Speer of St. Clair; one son, Robert "Rob" Eugene Speer II and wife Julie of Union; one daughter, Stephanie Brandt and husband Kevin of Washington; two brothers, Dean Speer of Bonne Terre and Norman Lee Speer and wife Debbie of St. Louis; one sister, Norma Jean Gray and husband Tim of Cuba; six grandchildren, Emilie, Brenna, Kadin, Krista, Richard and Wesley; two great-grandchildren, Margo and Quinn; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial donations are appreciated to the Baptist Children's Home.
