Obituary

Betty Joan Green (nee Lewis), age 79, went to her final resting place on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Betty was born in St. Louis, MO, on June 20, 1941, to the late Woodrow "Tuck" and Dorothy (nee Higgins) Lewis. She was the loving wife of the late Wesley Leroy Green and a devoted mother figure to Virgil "Pete" Birdnow whom she loved as her own.

Betty was a graduate of Eureka High School and spent 22 years working for Sisters of Mercy. She enjoyed spending time in nature, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and watching WWE Wrestling, but her favorite place to be was wherever she could spend time with family. She will be remembered as one-half of "The Bopsy Twins" in reference to her close relationship with her only sister and best friend, Mary. Betty was known to be spunky, feisty, "jug headed", and a little bit crazy, but everyone knew she had a heart of gold and she would do anything for anyone who needed it. She was everyone's "Aunt Betty" whether you were born into the family, married into it, or close enough to be considered part of it. If there was a birthday party, dinner, sporting event, holiday gathering, reunion, or basically any day ending in –y, she never missed an opportunity to spend time with family. Somehow, she always managed to keep up with everyone as the Lewis family kept growing; she truly kept everyone connected.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Jim, Lee, Ed, Don, and Stan; and her sisters-in-law, Sara and Judy. She is survived by her sister, Mary; her brother, Jerry; her "son", Pete (Trixie); her sisters-in-law, Bumsie, Linda, and Dee; plus, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many more family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association's "Covid-19 Action Initiative" (www.lung.org) or The American Heart Association (www.heart.org). Per Betty's final requests, there will be no funeral service and her ashes will be laid to rest with her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. To honor her memory, please share stories, laugh a lot, and cherish your time with family.
