Obituary

Barry J. Zurick of Washington, Missouri, born September 14th, 1957, passed away on October 24th at the age of 68. He was born in Breese, Illinois, to parents Van D. Zurick and Glennes D. Stevens Zurick.

Barry was a man of faith, determination, and most of all, love for his three sons. He will be remembered by all for his unique sense of humor that could light up any room, and a selfless attitude toward others that he maintained his entire life.

An avid outdoorsman, Barry found freedom and contentment in quiet moments spent fly fishing and hunting. His dedication to deer hunting with both bow and rifle earned him recognition from the Missouri Show-Me Big Bucks Club.

He raised his sons to "do the right thing"; a reflection of the values he lived by and demonstrated every day in the respect and consideration that he showed to others. Barry spent many years as Administrator at Mari De Villa Nursing Home, where his commitment to care and love for community touched countless lives over the decades. His final years were spent as a bus driver for OATS, a job he loved immensely because of the people he served, as well as his beloved coworkers. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Barry is survived by his children Kevin M., Andrew B., and Mitchell R. Zurick, as well as his fiancée Sheila Carter and her daughter, Mollie.

A funeral service will be held on November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at New Port Presbyterian Church in Washington, Missouri. Friends, loved ones, and all who knew him are encouraged to attend, share memories, and celebrate Barry's life together. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mayfly Project in Barry's honor.  The Mayfly Project is a 501(c)(3) supporting youth in foster care through fly fishing, helping them build confidence, find healing, and connect to their local waters.
