Avis R. Baker nee Smith, 82 of Washington, Missouri and former resident of Mascoutah, Illinois passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 in Washington, Missouri. Mrs. Baker, daughter of the late William Smith and wife Minta nee Peters was born October 10, 1932 in Perry Oklahoma. On February 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Dan Baker at the United Methodist Church in Emporia Kansas. She received her schooling at Emporia High School and furthered her education at Emporia State University while being a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Mrs. Baker was a member of St. Martin of Tours Lutheran Church in Mascoutah, IL. She will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and relished spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, William and Minta Smith; one sister, Lois Patterson and her granddaughter, Nicki Baker. She is survived by her husband, Dan Baker of Washington; three sons, Dan Baker of Bloomington, IN, Neil Baker of St. Louis Park, MN and Glen Baker and wife Jennifer of Washington, MO; her daughter, Brenda Hobbs and husband Terry of O'Fallon, IL; eight grandchildren, Katie McDaniel and husband Denver of Bloomington, IN, Mary Baker and fiancé Zack Brammer of Bloomington, IN, Marshall Baker of Bloomington, IN, Samantha Baker of Anchorage, Alaska, Griffin Baker of St. Louis Park, MN, Kelly Hobbs of O'Fallon, IL, Alex Baker of Washington, MO and Andrew Baker of Washington. MO.; four great-grandchildren, Maddie, Lily, Ella and Annabelle; three nephews; one niece; other relatives and many friends.
