Aletha Proffitt (Hoover), 84, of Union passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Aletha, daughter of Orville Hoover and wife Anita (Cleveland) was born March 30, 1940, in Ping Pong, IL.
On March 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to Rich Proffitt in Belleville, IL.
As a teenager Aletha worked on the SS Admiral RiverBoat in St. Louis. Later she was employed at Overland City Hall until moving onto Shure Manufacturing Corporation in Washington for 25 years and retiring on September 15, 2022.
In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo and traveling with family and friends. At home, she enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and took care of the gardening. Most of all, she was family oriented and will be dearly missed by everyone her life touched.
Aletha was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Anita Hoover; daughter, Susan Marvel; and eight siblings, Billy Hoover, Mary Stogner, Art Hoover, Becky Hoover, Norma Hoover, Susan Griggs, Fred Hoover and James Hoover.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rich Proffitt of Union; two daughters, Barbara Maciejewski of Union and Sandra Key of St. Charles; one brother, Bobby Hoover of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Frank Tiefenbruch of Union, Greg Tiefenbruch of Union, Hailey Key and fiancé Michael Smothermon of Wildwood and Ashley Kabel and husband Gregory of Wichita, KS; five great grandchildren, Braiden Wilson, Sylvia Smothermon, Evelyn Kabel, Ava Smothermon and Iris Smothermon; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial donations to Shriners Children's Hospital are preferred.
