Alan C.
Rubin
April 25, 1951 – February 22, 2018
Alan C. Rubin, 66, of Eureka passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home, with his loving wife, daughters, and family at his side.
On March 21, 1970 Al was united in marriage to Sally Litzsinger in St. Louis. Here is their story...
Al and Sally
began as high school sweethearts in the late 1960's. Over their 47 year marriage, they continued to be successful in all of life's endeavors, creating a partnership that took them through many challenges and triumphs in life, creating a beautiful family along their journey. As a father, "Papa," brother and uncle,
Al Rubin
was an accomplished self-taught entrepreneur for 48 years and founder of Rubin Painting Company, with Sally running the office. His business was primarily painting, yet he was a jack of all trades and there was never a task he couldn't complete. "No" was never a part of his vocabulary, only the question of "how." He was known as a "working athlete" as he went about his work like an athlete goes after his sport, or a wrestler after his opponent. Al was a competitor and sought after the best life had to offer in all areas. He was a fighter and never gave up.
Al had many hobbies. He took great joy in repurposing buildings materials, metals and lumber. Al was concerned for the environment. His love for the earth led him to the preservation of recycled buildings and products which spurred his unique, creative energy and vision to self-design multiple homes and reconstruct a log cabin at Bull Shoals Lake and a cabin at Charleville Vineyard.
Al was an avid event planner and united family and friends for many social events, hosting over 27 memorable Crawfish Boils at the lake, one graduation party and a rehearsal dinner. Since 2003, Al spent countless hours at the farm (Hunter's Ridge Ranch) where he built play areas and obstacle courses for his 10 beloved grandchildren. Each grandchild has a stone monument with his or her name, honoring them in special designated locations throughout the farm. Al organized Easter egg hunts, camp outs, kayak trips, hiking adventures, morel mushroom hunting, hay rides, firefly gazing, fishing lessons, walks through the bluebells and two story bonfires all for his adoring grandchildren. "Papa" loved his grandchildren and took pride in hearing stories about their adventures big and small, and most of them involved him.
His love for the outdoors and respect for the trees, animals and land around us was a part of who he was and he spread this love to everyone he met. "Al loved life and planted his soul in all of us." He was an extremely hard worker and master of efficiency. He was also a master of play and fun. Al went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a good time! And we did!
Over the past 11 years, Al developed a deep and loving relationship with a beautiful Irish setter, named McKenna. She was his constant, faithful companion and helped him through his battle with cancer, as her own battle with cancer ended only 30 days prior to his. Anyone who knew Al, knew his Special K. As the cover photo shows, they are reunited again.
Alan, son of the late Albert Rubin and wife Dolly (Pohlman) was born April 25, 1951 in St. Louis County, Missouri.
